Guardian Series
This is the first part of my Guardian Series. The series is about animals, and what those animals represent on different cultures. I explored the "known" meanings of these animals, and subverted them by showing how other cultures sees them, use their symbols.
The first part is composed by the first 4 Guardians: The Rabbit, The Wolf, The Jaguar, and The Crow.

The Rabbit:
The Rabbit is known to symbolize fertility and femininity. But the rabbit also represents disorganization and dissimulation, is an opportunistic animal, that comes to show you the unknown. The girl, that carries for you the lying mirror, the portal to a unknown world, is guided by her rabbit guardians, immature and opportunistic.

The Wolf
The wolf is an nocturne and terrestrial animal. It represents the duality of being, the instinctive versus the personal values. The girl, surrounded by her pack of wolfs, her guardians, learns from this intelligent and communal animal, about her instincts and and self-tamed feelings, her rationality. The heart is always burning inside all of us, being known as the source of instinctive actions.

The Jaguar
This guardian was added as an extra one, because of the Brazilian wildfires this September. The jaguar is the symbol of the Amazon Rain-forest, and the Pantanal (or the wet-lands). The wildfires are happening on the wet-lands of Brazil, and most wild jaguars lost their natural habitat. And "funny" enough, the jaguar symbolizes the protection of a territory, represents strength and honor. When summed, the jaguar brings this representations, as well as rebirth. So, it actually has everything to do with the moment in Brazil. The native girl, presented with body paintings of "Bororo" tribe, the biggest tribe on the brazilian wet-lands, is surrounded by her guardians, the jaguars that comes to protect the brazilian territory, and bring rebirth to the natural life that was lost with the wildfires.

The Crow
The crow is the most intelligent bird. It is usually related to bad omens, death, always negative themes. But, once again in an attempt to expand our references, the crow carries very pure meanings. In Tarot, shamanism, occultism, the crow is seen as a wise and advising animal. He is a messenger, demonstrating the need to wash and filter what is bad for you, or in you. The crow appears to show that there may be a need to reflect on something in ones life, and the possibility of individual cleansing. The purification process.
The girl dives from the darkness into the light, the crows, her guardians are present to assist her in the purification process. She cleans up, faces what is bad today, the darkness, and moves on to something better, the light.

All kind of art inspire any type of art. Cinema, photography, theater, painting, music, even religions. Everything can be a reference for us. Leave a comment with your thoughts!
